December 1 Is World AIDS Day

December 1 is celebrated as World AIDS Day.

It is a day to raise awareness of the Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) pandemic.

It is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), to show their support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate people who have died.

More than 25 million people between 1981 and 2011 have already died from the virus, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history.

Cash Or Kind Birthday

It's not my birthday yet, but it's an advance notice...hehehe

This also applies during the Holiday season - actual gifts would be better appreciated :)

Birthdays, Burpdays, and Berkdays

You're Invited To the House Blessing!

House Blessing Invitation

You are all invited to witness the house blessing of a Presidential suite located at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) compound in North Avenue, Quezon City.

The Pasay Regional Trial Court (RTC) ordered former President and incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to be transferred from the St. Luke's Medical Center in Taguig Global City to the VMMC within five days from receipt of the order to effect the transfer.

Pasay City Clerk of Court Joel Pelicano said the five days will give the parties concerned enough time to prepare for Mrs. Arroyo's transfer, and to allow them the opportunity to freely choose and order from their preferred party package and catering provisions provider. Event coordinators will be hired to supervise the production and execution of the many activities lined up during the event.

Father Robert “Running Priest” Reyes, a social and political activist priest, will officiate the house blessing ceremonies.

Put The Little Girl To Sleep

Operation “Put The Little Girl To Sleep”

From neck brace and Minerva vest support, to loss of appetite and diarrhea, to inflammation of the large intestine,..... I wondered a few days ago what will they think of next just to fish for sympathy and avoid being taken into a detention cell? I thought the next possible scenario when they ran out of illnesses, rare diseases and legal remedies, was going to be “possession by a foreign evil spirit” and their excuse to leave the country would be “To consult an exorcist abroad who could speak and understand the foreign evil's language”.

I was definitely wrong.

To Always Keep Our Sanity

"To always keep her privileged freedom,

sometimes she needs to go sicko !"

You better believe it.

I am really flabbergasted with what the XPGMA camp is concocting every time they hit a brick wall or obstacle from the Aquino administration.

But, on the positive side, I'm learning  a lot of highfalutin or high-flown bombastic language from the medical field.

We Don't See Things As They Are

"We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." - Anais Nin

I couldn't interpret or give meaning to this saying without sounding  a bit intellectually precocious yet somewhat emotionally stunted and amoral. We could each have our own valid and acceptable interpretation.

But for the meantime, let's just have some fun:

1. Pag sinabi bang "Put the Little Girl To Sleep", di ba pwedeng si Mahal muna bago sabihing si Gloria?

Circle of Bullies

Those bullied before have become today's bullies.

Later they will again be the bullied.

Circle of bullies.

Andres Bonifacio Day

The Father of the Philippine Revolution

Andres Bonifacio is considered as the “Father of the Philippine Revolution”. He is the founder and “Supremo” (leader) of the independence movement against Spain, the Kataastaasan Kagalang-galang na Katipunan nang nga Anak ng Bayan(KKK), or simply known as the Katipunan. He is also a member of La Liga Filipina, just like Jose Rizal. La Liga is a movement to achieve reforms in the Philippines through peaceful means. When these efforts did not bear fruit, Bonifacio subsequently came to believe that independence could be achieved through an armed revolution, thus creating the Katipunan in 1892.

St. Andrew's Feast Day

Patron Saint of Fishermen

St. Andrew, whose feast day is November 30th, is the patron saint for fishermen. Andrew, like his brother, Simon Peter, was a fisherman. He became a disciple of the great St. John the Baptist, but when John pointed to Jesus and said, "Behold the Lamb of God!" Andrew understood that Jesus was greater. At once he left John to follow the Divine Master. Jesus knew that Andrew was walking behind him, and turning back, he asked, "what do you seek?" When Andrew answered that he would like to know where Jesus lived, Our Lord replied, "Come and see." Andrew had been only a little time with Jesus when he realized that this was truly the Messiah.

From then on, he decided to follow Jesus. Andrew was thus the first disciple of Christ. Next, Andrew brought his brother Simon (St. Peter) to Jesus and Jesus received him, too, as His disciple.

November 30 is not only Bonifacio Day

For the Non-Pinoys and those that do not recognize the guy on the right, that's Andrew E. (during his younger years), a once very famous rapper ("Humanap Ka Ng Panget" popularity) and TV/movie comedian in the Philippines.

Of course the guy on the left is Andres Bonifacio (a tapang a tao) :)

Imelda Visits Gloria

Imelda Romualdez Marcos visits Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at the St. Luke's Medical Center Global City

namasdang walang takot silang harapin
kahit na tawagin  ka pang sinungaling

Marami kang proyektong ginawa
Marami kang bibig na pinakain
Marami kang posisyong binigay
Bagama't sabi ng maraming iba rin
ang nakinabang ay iyong pamilya

Our kids are our treasure.

They are our most precious possession.

They complete our lives.

We don't mind the noise every morning as we prepare for their school day. We don't mind all the running around in the house every time they want to play. We don't mind all the giggling and ramblings that they make at night before going to sleep. We don't mind all the chitchat during lunch time or weekend movie day.

We would prefer losing the opportunity to earn a fortune than miss the chance to see them as they grow up into becoming responsible, caring and successful adults.

Our kids bring joy to an otherwise dull and gloomy day.

Pinoy Big Brother House Arrest: Arroyo Edition

Since the Pasay RTC is busy looking into government facilities where they could "detain" Arroyo, I encourage them to look also into the possibility of  using ABS-CBN's Pinoy Big Brother House as a possible "detention cell"?

Perhaps it would be better for Arroyo to be summoned regularly by Big Brother or "Kuya" in the confession room so that Arroyo could finally say "I'm sorry" with sincerity. Having experienced the strains of being nominated several times for forced eviction, Arroyo would understand the gravity of being named " oppressor" due to her continued lack of social decorum and emotional quotient. She could finally cry out in tears, and confess her sins. Being in Kuya's house could finally take its toll on Arroyo and eventually boot herself out for a voluntary exit so that she could go back into the outside world, amend her irregular ways, and make up for everything that she has done to the Filipino people.

Bishop Bastes Versus Bastos Broadcasters

Bishop Bastes Vs Bastos Broadcasters (BB vs BB)

Sorsogon Bishop Arturo M. Bastes said the Kapisanan ng mga Broadcasters ng Pilipinas (KBP) should regulate programs being aired on FM stations at midnight.

The prelate alleged that some midnight disc jockeys (DJs) are using sexual innuendos when they give advice to callers who have relationship problems.
The bishop claimed that he received reports that midnight DJs are “using foul language” on-air from “a couple, teachers and even drivers,” but he has not personally listened to these radio stations yet.

Bishop Bastes encouraged FM radio jocks to play religious songs instead.

I have two words to say to the Bishop.

Sex sells.

We Will Survive! - Kris Aquino

Kris Aquino breaks her silence

Kris Aquino finally broke her silence regarding the Supreme Court's decision to have Hacienda Luisita distributed to the farm workers as per the long-standing plan of CARP, and sent a series of tweets in Twitter and told a tale worth telling.

It was about surviving no matter how much was lost, and would be lost now that the "mangagawang bukid" of the Cojuangco-owned hectares of land will finally get the land that was promised to them several years ago. It is unfortunate that some of these farm workers have died already without seeing their dream to finally till a land of their own come to a reality.

Kris Aquino's series of tweets on Twitter:

"Tomorrow Nov 27 will mark our Dad, Ninoy Aquino's 79th birthday. I believe PNoy inherited our Dad's courage in fighting for what is lawful & just."

"Since Luisita is very much in the news, may I share a beautiful story? When our Dad was imprisoned during Martial Law, our lolo Pepe Cojuangco visited him (lolo Pepe died in the mid 70s)."

May Mga Bagay Na Di Ko Na Kayang Lunukin

This was a trending topic on Twitter the other day (November 27, 2011, Sunday at ABS-CBN's The Buzz hosted by Boy Abunda).

One of the most controversial break-up announcement that was so very ambiguous, it only made the public to conjure up a lot of different interpretations or assumptions. The most prominent was that Piolo Pascual was one of the "Beckies"

KC Concepcion on her break-up with Piolo Pascual:

Gusto ko ‘to eh ‘di ba? Kasalanan ko ito kasi pinaglaban ko pa eh. Ginusto ko eh. At saka sobra sobra talaga akong nagtiwala sobra,”

“Masakit mang sabihin, hindi ako yung...siguro nag-fail din ako, dahil hindi ako yung kailangan niya sa buhay niya or hindi ako yung hinahanap niya sa buhay niya. And hindi ko mabigay sa kanya yung kailangan niya.”

The Many Hats We Wear Part 2

This is the second part of The Many Hats We Wear that I previously posted a few days ago. Let us take a look at more intriguing  personalities that have been seen and heard lately in the news, and what hats I believe they are wearing nowadays.

Edcel C. Lagman

In the current state of the country, what Lagman, and the other representatives that are allied to former President and now Representative Arroyo, is doing could be considered as outright character assasination as well.  For every move that Malacanang makes, there will always be a contradicting statement coming from Lagman. An example was when the Aquino administration exerted all efforts and even went against the Judiciary just to pin down Arroyo, he was there voicing his disgust. Another instance was when a representative proposed to rename EDSA into Cory Aquino Avenue, Lagman was one of the first ones to air his dislike.

Though not really a hat, the hood also covers the head. Similarly Lagman is like an assassin just like the character in the Assassins Creed video game who wears a hood and kills people that he believes have ridiculous ideologies. Lagman does not hide his hate for the present administration, but he aims to kill the foundation of the government by criticizing it to the extreme.

Remembering The Maguindanao Massacre

Remembering the Maguindanao Massacre

A full two years after a political massacre in the southern Philippines became the single worst slaying of journalists in the world, about half of the nearly 200 suspects remain at large.

Leaders of a politically powerful clan and several of their lieutenants have been put on trial over the attack — an ambush of a convoy and the slayings of at least 58 political opponents and media workers. But the proceedings have moved at a snail’s pace, frustrating relatives of the victims.

The government assured relatives of the victims that it would do all it can to give them justice and punish all the suspects. But while the government has taken steps to hasten the prosecution, it has suffered delays because of numerous legal tactics by the suspects’ lawyers in a judiciary notorious for a huge number of backlog cases.

GMA's Hurtin' Right Now !

"This is where former President Arroyo now Pampanga Representative is jailed. So privileged. If I am convicted of a crime and this is where the court will detain me, I would very much appreciate it! Imagine the cost of this prison cell is Php.50,000.00 per day - on top of you can order your choice of food and drinks. Tsk! Former President Estrada was detained in government hospital during his days of imprisonment why not XPGMA?"

I feel bad for Arroyo right now. You want to know why?

Because she is now under hospital arrest at St. Luke's Medical Center.

It' s the hospital where it's legacy of excellence surpasses all expectations. For over a century, St. Luke's superior brand of healthcare service has made it truly world class.

With astounding success anchored on five pillars of expertise-expert doctors, state-of-the-art technology, guaranteed patient safety, excellent success rate and passionate customer service, St Luke's Medical Center is the first hospital in the country to be accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) but discredited by the Philippine Medical Association (PMA).

With its undisputed leadership in virtually all medical specialties, including cardiovascular medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, cancer, ophthalmology, and digestive and liver diseases,  and other specialties except bone biopsy, St Luke's Medical Center brings its commitment to the south as it opened another modern facility at the Fort Bonifacio Global City.

The real condition of GMA

After consultations made with St. Luke's Medical Center chief Herminigilda Salangad and Arroyo's main attending physician, Dr. Juliet Cervantes, the Regional Health Service of the National Capital Region Police Office (RHS-NRCPO) completed  a report showing former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's condition as actually improving, contrary to what her doctor's and lawyer's are claiming.

It showed that Arroyo was "conscious," "coherent" and "not in cardio-respiratory distress." She was also not being fed intravenously, as was previously mentioned by her lawyer, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio. Her blood pressure was also normal at 120/80, contrary to reports that she had elevated blood pressure. The report added that her parathyroid hormones are within normal limits.

"Patient was seen lying flat on her back on the bed, wearing a Minerva vest. No IV fluid but still with plaster on site of her previous IVF on her left arm, No observable sign of pain but complains of pain on her lower back and left leg and 'tingling' of toes when asked, slight weakness of both feet, no complaints of diarrhea. Hypoparathyroidism is resolving. Calcium, magnesium and vitamin D supplements are being maintained. All other laboratory reports are within the normal levels. X-ray of the neck show that her cervical spine implants are in place and shows no sign of loosening and with increased density of her bone graft. “

Luis And Aurelia: Reunited

Thanks to the power of social networking sites and the still existing compassion for the elders, tens of thousands of sympathetic Facebook users helped reunite a grandmother with her 78-year-old husband who went missing for two weeks. The story of Lola Aurelia Matias and how she was reunited with her husband, Lolo Luis, is one of the most touching stories shared across the country this week.

A black-and-white picture of a forlorn Aurelia Matias, 73, sitting on a street corner with a missing persons poster on her back, went viral after an amateur photographer posted it on Facebook.

Police had failed to find Luis Matias, 78, who is suffering from memory loss, after he walked out of his Manila home on November 11, but he was located within two days of the Facebook post. The old man was found in the LRT Quirino Station area. People who recognized the old man who was missing for two weeks feed the good news to DZMM Teleradyo which led to the reunion of the old inspiring couple.

"We don't even know how to use Facebook, but it was such a big help to us and we thank the person who took my mother's picture and posted it."

A Visit To Hacienda Luisita

SC orders Hacienda Luisita land distribution

The Supreme Court has ordered the distribution of more than 4,900 hectares of Hacienda Luisita lands to over 6,000 registered tenants of the sprawling agricultural estate owned by the relatives of President Aquino.

Voting unanimously, the 14 justices of the tribunal agreed to void the stock distribution plan which Hacienda Luisita Inc. offered to farmworker-beneficiaries (FWBs) in lieu of actual land ownership.

The decision explained that the stock distribution plan put forward by the management will never provide the control sought by the FWBs. Control, in this case, means 50% plus at least one share of the common shares.

Taking into account the P590,554,220 total assets of HLI, the value of the land in question is P196,630,000 or 33.296%.

"There is even no assurance that 100% of the 118,391,976.85 shares issued to the FWBs will all be voted in favor of staying in HLI, taking into account the previous referendum among the farmers where said shares were not voted unanimously in favor of retaining the (stock plan)," the decision says.

The high court noted that if the farmers choose stocks, they will be treated as common shareholders not protected by the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law.
HLI ordered to pay P1.33 billion to beneficiaries.

Wanna Hitch A Ride To The Cory Aquino Avenue ?

House Bill 5422, filed by Bohol Representative Rene Lopez Relampagos proposes to rename EDSA into Cory Aquino Avenue in honor of former President Corazon Aquino.

Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA, pronounced ed-sah), formerly known as Highway 54, but even before that, it was called Disinueve De Hunyo (June 19), is the main circumferential road and highway of Metro Manila in the Philippines. It is an important commuting artery between the northern and southern parts of the metropolitan area. EDSA handles 316,345 cars per section on average every day. Stretching some 24 kilometres (15 mi), it is one of the longest avenues in the Philippines.

Representative Rene Lopez Relampagos said the avenue should be named after the late Philippine leader and mother of President Benigno Aquino III because “one cannot think of the 1986 EDSA Revolution without thinking of Corazon Aquino.”

Supreme Kura-Court

Voting 8-5, the Supreme Court flashed the green light, by way of a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO), on the plan of former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her husband, Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo, to leave the country purportedly to seek treatment abroad for her bone ailment.

The eight magistrates who voted to issue the TRO

1. Renato Corona
2. Presbitero Velasco Jr.
3. Arturo Brion
4. Diosdado Peralta
5. Lucas Bersamin
6. Roberto Abad
7. Martin Villarama Jr.
8. Jose Perez

All 8 were appointed by Arroyo during her nine-year presidency.

Midas Feminine Touch

The designated messenger of the Supreme Court was caught in camera in a very awkward moment. I think Midas Marquez has been too comfortable with the reporters that he let loose his feminine side freely without any inhibitions.

The video entitled "Supreme Court Spokesperson Atty. Jose Midas P. Marquez is 100% GAY? [For fun only]" is now getting a lot of hits on YouTube and beginning to gather various wacky and humorous reactions from the online community on many social networking sites and forums. It was during a live interview where he was caught by DZMM Teleradyo.

Do you think it was deliberate?.... that he just wanted to spice up the moment, or is he just too influenced by watching Vice Ganda in Showtime, or Tito Boy Abunda in The Buzz, or if he is not a Kapamilya, then he is probably a fan of John "Sweet" Lapuz of the Kapuso network. I don't think there's a popular gay in the Kapatid network, but I could be wrong.

Does this video confirms all your doubts about his sexuality?

Ang Itlog Ni Topak-Cio

“topac-io - baka maging square itlog nya kakaupo buong araw at kakaisip sa mga binitiwang salita...”

“For the time being, ligtas na itlog ni Topacio. Hehehe”

“Sir, care to share the whole story? Di ko kase na gets sa news eh. Thanks!”

“Eto sir :)

Topacio: I'll have my 'ball' cut off if Arroyos don't return"

Lawyer Ferdinand Topacio is very confident of the sincerity of the Arroyos, that he is willing to cut a “ball” off if they do not return as promised.

In a quirky moment during a serious discussion on ANC's Headstart about the Arroyos’ attempt to go abroad for medical purposes, Topacio said: “I’m willing to do the worst. Ipapatanggal ko isang itlog ko pag di bumalik ang mga Arroyo.”

He said he would not have accepted the case of the Arroyos if he knew they were not sincere. “I’m a good judge of character,” he claimed.

His statement earned several comments online :

An FB page "Ayoko Sa Itlog Ni Topacio" was created saying " Sabi ni Topacio sa atin na lang daw itlog niya pag di bumalik ang mga Arroyo. E mas may dating pa itlog ng kalabaw sa itlog mo Topacio. Eeeeewwwww!!!! Whatever!!! Kebs! Sooo jologs! No tenks. Huwag na lang. Unsa mana? Sa yo na lang itlog mo. Ayaw namin sa maitim na itlog mo Topacio."

The Birth of Damnation blog posted: " Bugso na rin marahil ng damdamin ang nagtulak kay Topacio upang ialay ang isa sa kanyang mga yagbols sa kanyang amo pero napapaisip pa rin ako. Bakit. Bakit. Bakit.

Sandiganbayan Or RTC

Arroyo's legal spokesperson Raul Lambino said they will question the issuance of the warrant by the Pasay RTC, saying it has no jurisdiction on the case.

Lambino said the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) erred when it filed the case before the lower court when the proper forum is before the Sandiganbayan since Arroyo is a public official.

The Comelec, for its part, said Republic Act 9369, which amended Article 286 of the Omnibus Election Code, gives exclusive jurisdiction over cases of electoral sabotage to regional trial courts. It said the law does not grant to the anti-graft court jurisdiction over election-related offenses.

After a review of relevant laws, the defense team realized that the Pasay City RTC had jurisdiction over the case.

Lawyers Galore

Atty. Raul Lambino
Atty. Jose Flaminiano
Atty. Ferdinand Topacio
Atty. Miguel "Mike" Arroyo

plus a lot more somewhere working at the background away from the lens of the news TV camera, 25 hours a day, 8 days a week  and 366 days a year for Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

I heard in the news Mike Arroyo shouting at the airport " Kawawa naman ang asawa ko, may sakit!"

Boohoo!...Spank me in the butt if I don't shed a tear.

De Lima's Dilemma

What safeguards and restraints are left to protect people if the very instruments designed to insure check and balance between the three branches of government can simply be disregarded or rendered useless through double-talk?

As one businessman put it: the TRO that Justice Secretary Leila De Lima disobeyed and disregarded, is the very same instrument that is used to stop toll hikes, new taxes, suspicious transactions of government agencies, proclamations or executive orders as well as local government orders. That TRO is just like the TRO’s that courts issue to protect lives and properties and intervene in life and death medical issues.

TROs are there for everyone’s protection. TROs protect the interests of the State when needed and TROs are there to protect citizens from the State if necessary. Last week, an official of the state, named Leila De Lima showed us that such a protection only applies to the interest of the state.

GMA's New Home At SPD?

It’s not first class but it will do.

The Southern Police District (SPD) has begun sprucing up a room in its camp in Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City should the Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) order that former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo be held there.

Arroyo is currently under hospital arrest at St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City in Taguig on charges of electoral sabotage.

The SPD’s public information office was rearranged to accommodate a cot on which Arroyo, now a Pampanga representative, could lie while in detention, according to SPD spokesperson, Chief Inspector Jenny Tecson.

“We have been instructed by our officer in charge to begin preparing for the eventuality of the former President’s detention in our headquarters,” Tecson said in a phone interview.

Hospital Arrest Or Diretso Sa Selda

The Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) hearing the electoral sabotage case against former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has allowed her continued hospital arrest until it is determined whether she is fit to go to jail.

With no objection from prosecution lawyers of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Judge Jesus Mupas of Pasay City RTC Branch 112 on Monday permitted Arroyo to remain confined at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City.

“The court has agreed to a temporary hospital arrest due to her health condition and for humanitarian reasons,” the clerk of court, Jose Pelicano, told reporters after the court postponed to Friday a hearing on the motions filed by Arroyo’s lawyers.

An official of the Philippine Medical Association (PMA), who does not agree that Arroyo’s medical condition needs treatment abroad, advised that she be detained in the hospital rather than a jail cell.
“The hospital is the appropriate place for a sick person, whether an ordinary or [prominent] citizen,” Leo Olarte, a PMA governor and orthopedic surgeon, said on the sidelines of the Kapihan sa Diamond Hotel media forum.

“Great news, kaso bitin. hospital arrest.. What's next? House arrest?”

GMA's Mugshots: Fake Or Real Or Fake?

"can anyone confirm if this is legit?"

"yup this is true.. (i think)"

"Obvious naman naka higa si madam dyan sa mga pictures na yan [baka hospital bed yan or during a procedure like MRI/CAT scan etc] at maayos pa ang appearance nya. FAKE!"

"Fake daw yan!"

Update:

The purported mugshots of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo that were published in the Philippine Daily Inquirer Monday are fake, Interior Secretary Jesse M. Robredo said Tuesday.

“The mugshots that appeared in the front page of the Inquirer today are not the actual mugshots,” he said.

The official called the Inquirer Tuesday morning to issue the clarification, reiterating the government line that it was up to the courts to release the authentic mugshots.

GMA's Warrant of Arrest

"Warrant of arrest lang? hindi ba pwede shoot to kill?"

The camp of arrested former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Arroyo said it would start filing appeals against the arrest warrant when courts reopen.

Ferdinand Topacio, lawyer of Arroyo's husband, Jose Miguel, said he will petition the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday to suspend the arrest warrant and other legal effects of the preliminary investigation jointly conducted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

He said she would also ask the Supreme Court on Monday to declare illegal the work of an investigative body which gathered the evidence for the criminal charge against her. Once that is achieved, the arrest warrant would lose its legal basis.

Arroyo's lawyers already filed motions before the SC questioning the legality of the joint investigating committee and the jurisdiction of the court that issued the warrant.

Topacio said the government filed the charges with "indecent haste" and the quickness of the arrest was a "minor miracle" in the Philippine judicial system.

Lawyer Raul Lambino said the lower court would hear a motion on Monday to lift the arrest warrant on the grounds that the criminal suit should have been filed elsewhere. “We feel that there has been a violation of due process when they railroaded this case and filed the information at a wrong court” .

GMA's Mugshots

"wala pa bang mug shot?"

"Ilabas ang mugshot!"

"no mug shot for the public!!!

pinagbawal ng court na ilabas sa public yung pang profile pic este yung mug shot ni GMA"

Authorities took Arroyo's mugshots, fingerprints, and hand prints  inside her room at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City.

The mugshots were taken while she was sitting on her bed in a reclined position. Arroyo's nameplate were held up by the technician while she was being photographed because Arroyo was "not capacitated" to hold the plate herself, Philippine National Police (PNP) Senior Superintendent Joel Coronel, who facilitated the procedure, said.

Frail and suffering from high blood pressure, she was wearing her neck brace and a standard hospital gown while friends and relatives witnessed the technician taking the mugshots.

The mugshots above did not come from the Pasay City Regional Trial Court which has refused to release the police photos. There was also a request that the mugshots would not be allowed to be released to the public yet. Sources who requested anonymity sent the photos to a local Philippine Daily Inquirer newspaper.

The Many Hats We Wear

Why do we wear hats?

Humans have covered their heads since time immemorial.  Initially headwear offered protection from the elements and from injury from falling rocks, weapons or masonry.  Later head coverings became symbols of status of authority.  Soon after hats progressed to become not only a uniform, but also an art form.

In fashion terms, hats are a very noticeable accessory because the onlooker’s attention is first drawn to the face. A hat is the most noticeable fashion item anyone can wear.  The old saying goes 'if you want to get ahead and get noticed, then get a hat'.  Indeed the word 'ahead' means just that one head further forward.

Since some body heat is lost through the head, in inclement conditions it is important to cover the head. Babies in particular lose heat rapidly through the head, thus ensuring a baby or toddler has a warm covered head in winter is important.

When we say we wear many hats, we could also mean it metaphorically.

When arsonists are coming out of left field, we sound the alarm, put on our firefighter hat, and start putting out fires. When our organization is under attack, we rally the troops, put on our combat helmet and prepare for battle. When we land that good news story on the front page, be honest ladies (and sometimes men), we put on the tiara and celebrate. And some days you just put on your ratty old ball cap and do the grunt work that nobody else wants to do because it has to get done.

We all have metaphorical hats that we swap off and on depending on the day, the hour, sometimes the minute.  We each wear many hats within one day.

Now, let us take a look at what hats recently controversial personalities in the news are wearing nowadays.

Letter to the School

To The Adviser,

Yesterday, our  daughter came home crying. She was in tears when she told us how you questioned her on the reasons why her parents called up the Principal’s office. She was deeply worried that the incident may affect her chances of getting good grades and may influence others to look at her badly. She told us how you asked about her family background, and made remarks or assumptions quite degrading and humiliating for her. You somewhat interrogated her which made her feel so uncomfortable and uneasy.

We are not happy with your actions towards our daughter. You should have just communicated directly to us and not to our child who is clueless about our discussion with the Principal. You have caused our daughter further fear and anxiety, more than what she was experiencing before this incident.

We believe there seems to have been a “lost in translation” scenario here. The Principal must have relayed our message incorrectly…. or that we may have failed in clearly getting our points across to her.

Kawawa Ba Si Arroyo?

The Philippine government has blocked the former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her husband from leaving the country and has said it will appeal a supreme court order allowing them to travel abroad for medical treatment.

Accompanied by her husband and son, Arroyo arrived at Manila airport in an ambulance  and was wheeled into a departure hall wearing a face mask and a neck brace.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said the former first couple, who are being investigated for alleged corruption and electoral fraud, would be treated with dignity but "we will be firm in our decision not to allow them to leave the country".

"This is all high drama. They want the public to sympathise with them," he said.

SC vs DOJ: Who Would Win ?

The government's refusal to comply with the supreme court order put the Aquino administration on a collision course not only with the Arroyos and their allies but also with the country's highest court.

Aquino last week refused to let Arroyo travel, saying she might never return because of the corruption investigation and the formal charges he expected would be filed against her by the end of the year.

But the supreme court justices voted 8-5 to issue a temporary restraining order allowing Arroyo to seek treatment for a bone ailment, court spokesman Midas Marquez said.

"They are free to exercise their constitutional rights," Marquez said, adding that the government could be cited for contempt.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do, are in harmony…” - Mahatma Gandhi (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi)

We would not be totally happy and contented if all three could not be in agreement with each other.

We would just be fooling ourselves if we continue to live a life lacking true happiness.

Remember that you are living only one life so do not waste it in complacency.

A life lived not to its fullest is but a slow wait to your eventual death.

Cyborg Gloria

Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s third cervical spine surgery was successful, but it is going to take a while before she can return to her duties as a Pampanga representative, according to her doctors.

“The surgery went well. We were able to do what we set out to do, no complications,” said Dr. Mario Ver, the orthopedic surgeon in Arroyo’s team of doctors at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig.

“We’re very happy with the procedure. Everything happened as planned, no problem was encountered. We’re very happy with the outcome of the surgery,” he said.

According to Ver, the surgery involved the reconstruction of the anterior part of Arroyo’s cervical spine using a titanium mesh cage with a bone graft that was harvested from her pelvic bone.
