Chief Justice Renato Corona has quickly made a statement as a response to the testimonies in court of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales at the Impeachment Trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona. The statements were short but vague for it neither denies nor affirms any truth or falsehood. I made Google Translate do the English to Filipino translation (although a bit rough on some), and also tried to explain what they could probably really mean. If only I could read the mind of the Chief Justice, then it would be fun knowing the truth behind his unexplained wealth.

ReplyDeleteIn fairness to the Ombudsman, she has not really or substantially investigated the accounts so that her disclosures and statements are premature because she lacks competence in ascertaining the accounts. It should be the AMLC and the banks to testify so that all dollar bank accounts in the name of the CJ with details of number of accounts and balance per year from 2004 to 2011 can be established.
The information has bearing on the yearly SALN and on the suspicion of ill-gotten wealth. Unfortunately, the testimony has not established anything but that the CJ has most probably dollar accounts in various banks.
The problem is the Ombudsman testified on something she is not competent to testify on.
If the CJ does not testify he should by all means resign. The more reasonable guess is that he will testify unless he wants to be the laughing stock of the whole country.
