Have A Fruitful New Year!

The Filipinos borrow many traditions from the Chinese, and the idea of driving away bad luck or bad spirits and ushering in good luck for the coming new year is the overall theme for Filipino New Year celebrations.

We have firecrackers as one example. They say that the noise and tremors will send the evil spirits speedily high-tailing out of the area.

Another tradition when it comes to bringing luck in the upcoming year is to have round fruits at the dining table. Our family has been consistent ever since to include round fruits every New Year. We never fail to complete the required number of fruits, even at least one of every kind, just to follow the long-time tradition.

Jose Rizal Day

José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda
(June 19, 1861 – December 30, 1896)

December 30 is Jose Rizal Day commemorating the death of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, a Filipino polymath, physician, scientist. novelist,  a prolific poet, essayist, diarist, correspondent, a polyglot conversant in at least ten languages, and the national hero of our country, the Philippines.

In the hope of securing political and social reforms for his country and at the same time educate his countrymen, Jose Rizal, the greatest apostle of Filipino nationalism, published several works with highly nationalistic and revolutionary tendencies.

And the Winners of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2011 were named already.

The stars were all glamorous as they dazzled at the Resorts World Performing Arts Theatre for the 37th MMFF Awards Night.

Many have already placed their bets on “Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story” to bag several awards in the 2011 MMFF. Indeed, “The Asiong Salonga Story”, despite the controversies surrounding the movie, bagged most of the major awards. The movie received a total of 8 major awards,  including best picture, best director, best supporting actor, best screenplay, best production design, best original theme song and best cinematography awards, plus 3 minor awards.

All-Out War Against Corona

“War is a brutal and ugly enterprise. Yet it remains central to human history and social change. These two facts together might seem paradoxical and inexplicable, or they might reveal deeply disturbing facets of the human character (notably, a drive for dominance over others). What is certainly true, in any event, is that war and its threat continue to be forces in our lives.”

In the pursuit of justice, we need to wage an all-out war against the perpetrators of the criminal acts.

Recent events graphically demonstrate this proposition: think of the impeachment and eventual resignation of former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez, the arrest of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the Impeachment complaint against Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona, the arrest of former Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos, the arrest warrant for retired Major General Jovito Palparan Jr., and other ongoing events more appropriately should be called “the war on the former Arroyo administration”.

The past years under the governance of the Arroyo aministration had been savagely scarred with intriguing and controversial political warfare, thus we all have high hopes and expectations going into the year 2012.

Many of us traditionally set off firecrackers and make a lot of noise on New Year's Eve in the belief that they will drive away the bad luck of the past year and attract good luck in the coming year.

We are up against cultural belief that firecrackers drive away bad spirits, but what the public should know is that the firecrackers are the “evil spirits” themselves.

Everyone is gearing up for the battle that they are to face come 2012.

The Impeachment Trial!

When you hear people going into battle, what do you think of?

We begin to imagine people forming two groups each opposite of another with weapons in their hands. The officers used gunfire as warning shots preparing the way for troops to march towards their destination. The band is playing in the process. Then the officers gave their commands and the two armies raced towards each other as they sing the battle cries.

For the younger generation, we would see a fight between two groups of  powerful beings or creatures with superpowers and high ideals, adorned with fancy costumes or outfits. Each member equipped with ultra-human will and strength, out-of-this-world powers and abilities, or high-tech weaponry. Ready to clash against each other for supremacy, liberty or justice.

To Be Or Not TV

Finally, A TV At Last!

Ang Galling Pinoy party-list Representative Mikey Arroyo announced that her mother, former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, will soon be getting a radio and television set inside the Presidential Suite of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC).

This was because Judge Jesus Mupas of the Pasay RTC branch 112  Regional Trial Court (RTC) already allowed Arroyo to have TV and radio access in detention, as well as one hour daily of sunlight.

PALiPARAN

Warrant of Arrest for Palparan and Company
Retired Major General Jovito Palparan Jr. mention before that he would not hide and would face the court, and even said he is not as good as Senator Panfilo Lacson when it comes to hiding.

However, Palparan had tried to fly off from the Diosdado Macapagal Airport in Clark, Pampanga, and even tried to hide his identity. CCTV footage from the Bureau of Immigration showed Palparan presenting his passport to an immigration officer behind immigration counter 4. Palparan was wearing a beige jacket, white cap and sunglasses. He was questioned by the immigration officer for a few minutes before he was led to the Bureau of Immigration office.

So we better be cautious and observant as he might try to fly off again on a different “Paliparan.

Birthday Boy Boxer

Birthday Bash Ala Hollywood

Boxing champ and Sarangani Representative Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao celebrated his 33rd birthday with a major star-studded bash, Hollywood style with all the elements of showbiz glamor and kick.

The nearly 2,000 guests, among them celebrities, politicians, relatives and buddies in the trade, arrived in their best dresses and suits, packed the KCC Mall Convention Center, cheered on, and paid tribute to the legendary boxing icon tagged as the most famous Filipino.

Joy Isla, managing owner of Party Island refused to cite the cost of the event, but a Pacquiao family member claimed that about P5 million had been spent to orchestrate the event, excluding the car and P2 million that were raffled off for the guests.

83-year-old grandma, Cristina Dapigran, was given the chance to give her birthday message to the celebrant. After giving her greetings, Daprigan said in the vernacular: “I hope you will make good your promise to give me a house.” The boxer-turned-lawmaker responded with a big smile.

I hope the residents of Northern Mindanao, like Cagayan De oro and Iligan. could also request a new home from Pacquiao.

Dionisia, Pacquiao’s mom also appeared  and even sang two songs for her famous son. I think the songs were entitled “ Mo Money, No Problems” by Notorious B.I.G. and “Envy” by Nicki Minaj, and she dedicated it to the people of Northern Mindanao (joke).

St. Pedro Calungsod

Saint Pedro

The Philippines will have its second saint in Blessed Pedro Calungsod.

Calungsod was a 17-year old Roman Catholic Filipino martyr who was killed while doing missionary work in Guam in 1672. He was beatified on March 5, 2000, by Pope John Paul II.

A skilled Sacristan and Catechist, he accompanied Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitores to the Marianas Islands to catechize the natives of Marianas island.

Calungsod's religious persecution and Christian martyrdom is also called In Odium Fidei or In Hatred of the Faith.

Through their missionary efforts, many catechumens converted to the Roman Catholic Church through the Sacrament of Baptism.

National State Of Calamity

Have We Done Enough?

A State of National Calamity has been declared.

All government agencies have been mobilized.

A prize freeze on all basic goods has been issued.

President Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday declared a state of national calamity and vowed to mobilize assistance for victims of the worst storm to hit his presidency.

He said he declared the state of calamity to start the mechanisms from which the government could get additional relief funding.

“I need to ask myself. Did the government do enough to prevent this kind of a tragedy? I don’t think I can accept that we have done everything,” President Noynoy Aquino told evacuees at Cagayan de Oro Central School during a lightning visit to the disaster zone four days after Tropical Storm “Sendong” struck.

“I know we could have done more.” He added.

The Impeachment Trial Part 2

Sagging Economy?

This whole episode of branches of the government going at each others throat calls for a clear delineation of roles and functions of the three branches of government. Constitutional experts and legal luminaries would be most welcome in elucidating for everyone these basic tenets of the Constitution. This is one time politicians can show bipartisan efforts in defusing the situation  so that it would not really culminate in a Constitutional crisis that will further drag down our already sagging economy.

The Impeachment Trial

Biggest And Smallest Crocodile

The Philippines now holds the world records for the largest and smallest captured crocodiles.

The largest is Lolong (20’3”) is now confined in Agusan Del Sur.

Lolong is the largest crocodile now in captivity. A male Indo-Pacific or Saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), that weighs 2,370 pounds (1,075 kilograms) and a length of 20 feet 3 inches (6.17 meters), making him one of the largest crocodiles ever measured from snout-to-tail. In captivity, it surpassed the length of the eighteen-foot record-holder Cassius of Australia, the twenty-foot Nile crocodile Gustave and even the twenty-foot crocodile caught in New Guinea on 1983.

The smallest (4'3") is now confined in Quezon City, at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC), and goes by the name of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Lately, in joint cooperation between the House of Representatives and Malacanang, and hopely the Senate, the Philippines is now in the process of claiming another big catch: A crocodile that goes by the name of Renato Corona.

Kim Jong Dead

Kim Jong Dead

I hope he's in a warm corner of hell: The world is better off without Kim Jong Il who's gone to join Gaddafi, Bin Laden and Hitler.

Kim Jong Il, North Korea's longtime dictator, came into power in 1994  succeeding his father Kim Il Sung, and eventually taking the posts of chairman of the National Defense Commission, commander of the Korean People’s Army and head of the ruling Worker’s Party while his father remained as North Korea’s “eternal president.”

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korea’s state news agency, issued several statements on Monday. A release titled “Kim Jong Il Passes Away (Urgent)”. A "special broadcast" from the North Korean capital, state media said the 69-year-old died of a heart ailment on a train due to a "great mental and physical strain" during a "high intensity field inspection." A separate article entitled “Medical Analysis of Kim Jong Il’s demise” added that Kim suffered an “advanced acute myocardial infarction, complicated with a serious heart shock.” It said an autopsy was done and "fully confirmed" the diagnosis.

Valerie's PNoy Krismas Party

Chokoleit also has a list of his own versions of the popular question and answer pick-up lines:

Chokoleit Wits Part 3

POLYGAMOUS POLITICS

He also takes time to comment on whats hot on the news. He said the recent turnabouts among political parties are amusing but tiring so he would like to lighten it up a bit with some of his “Twiticissms”.

“BREAKING NEWS: Breaking rules is breaking the law. Give us a break! This is Sokoleyt Sokulit, Breaking the Ice!”

“So what else is new? Pati linyang 'to gasgas na rin. Let me rephrase, who else knew? Mali ba? Or where else is now? Tama ba? Ewaaan! Lamonayan!☺”

“Nakakapagod pakinggan mga kontra-banat-depensa bawat partido Re: Arroyo's Arrest. Idaan ko na lang sa komentong komedya. Circus Carnival, Atbp.”

Chokoleit Wits Part 2

GIFT-GIVING

Christmas is the season for gift-giving, and Chokoleit is never gonna miss on the chance to share with us some jokes about this noble tradition:

“Nabasa ko sa card ng gift, To: YOU From: ME. Napaisip tuloy ako, niregaluhan ko ba sarili ko? O gusto ko lang subukan ma-surprise kunwari?☺☹”

“Valentine's day years ago. Kunwari may nagpadala flowers. Pa-girl pako,"Ay kanino galing?"Hindii na-rehearse si messenger,"Sa inyo po daw"☺☹”

Chokoleit Wits

EVERYTHING ABOUT CHOKOLEIT

I am perfectly imperfect.., forthright in my flaws.., sure of my insecurities. Absolute chaos. A beautiful disaster.

That is how Chokoleit describes himself in his Twitter profile.

Chokoleit, or Jonathan Aguilar Garcia in real life, is a TV and movie comedian actor, and stage comic who frequently performs at comedy bars and occasional guest appearances in several types of shows as what he once tweeted “rumaket na magpapatuloy pa mula pasko, town anniv, foundation day, patron fiesta, house blessing, binyag. kasal, kumpil, tuli atbp☺.”

I’ve been following a lot of personalities in Twitter, but his tweets are something to watch out for because they are definitely hilarious. Well, at least for my “eccentric” taste.

While the other stars tweet about what they are eating, the stuff they are buying, the places they are in or have been, the personalities they are seeing, etc., our Chokoleit also takes time to share with his followers a lot of inspirational sayings, words of wisdoms and plenty of his humorous insights on current events.

“Mababaw mang sabihin ang taste ko sa larangan ng komedya,
hindi ko ikakahiya na ako ay kanya talagang napapatawa
everytime na aking mababasa, mga tweets niya na ubod ng kaloka
hahalakhak ng todo-todo, at mapagkakamalang luka-luka”

"Twas the days before Christmas, when all through the Lower House
All the Representatives were stirring, headed by Neil Tupas.
The impeachment was introduced by the Majority with dare,
In hopes that the Chief Justice would soon be out of their hair.

The Congressmen were nestled all quick with their pens,
While visions of pork barrel danced in their heads.
And the Senators in their judicial robes, and Pnoy’s happy clap,
Had just settled their brains for a long impeachment rap."

Christmas is nearing. The big day is just around the corner, but still a lot of troubling events are happening within our country. Let us take a look at some of these, but a fair warning because you may not be pleased.

Punong Mahistrado Blues

Favorite Song

A Victory Concert Party celebrating Noynoy Aquino's  win as the country’s new President was held last June 2010 at the Quezon Memorial Circle.  Aquino sang two songs. The songs were “Watch What Happens” by Sergio Mendes, and "Estudyante Blues" by Freddie Aguilar.

Last December 14, at the House of Representatives Christmas Party, Aquino sang Estudyante Blues again.

It seems Estudyante Blues is his favorite song.

Before the reported videoke singing, Aquino personally thanked all the congressmen who helped impeach Chief Justice Renato Corona.

He also expressed his gratitude for the quick passage of the 2012 national budget.

He said that he is hoping for reforms in the judiciary branch, as well as better prospects for the economy next year.

Celebrity Wishes Part 2

Make A Wish

According to wikipedia, a wish is a hope or desire for something.

Some cultures have customs in which people are encouraged to "make a wish", such as blowing out the candles on a birthday cake, seeing a shooting star at night, tossing a coin into awishing well or fountain or breaking the wishbone of a cooked turkey. Many believe such wishes can only come true if they are kept a secret from other people. Others, on the other hand, believe that wishes come true only if they are told to someone else.

In fiction a wish is a supernatural demand placed on the recipient's unlimited request. When it is the center of a tale, the wish is usually a template for a morality tale, "be careful what you wish for"; it can also be a small part of a tale, in which case it is often used as a plot device. You can wish on many things for example: wishing wells, dandelions when you blow the seeds, stars and much more. When you wish in a well you throw money in, in the hope your wish comes true.

Celebrity Wishes

Secret Santa

During the Christmas season, our company usually celebrates the end of the year with a Christmas Party. ...and several days before the said event, we would always practice what we call "Secret Santa" or others would call it "Monito, Monita" or "Kris Kringle". You can call it by different names but the same rules apply.

Secret Santa is a Western Christmas tradition, in which members of a group or community are randomly assigned a person to whom they anonymously give a gift. Often practiced in workplaces, or amongst large families, participation in it is usually voluntary. It offers a way for many people to give and receive a gift at low cost to those involved.

We would randomly pick a name from a bowl, and whoever we picked would be our "Baby", and we would be the Secret Santa. Secret because everyone would never reveal their identities until the big day.

Every week, at least four weeks before the Christmas Party, there would also be a particular small gift or token that would be given to our "babies". These gifts are different from the real gift that would be given on the day of the Christmas party.

Each week would have a different gift category. Like "something long and hard" on the first week, then "something soft and round" on the second week, and so on.

We would also post our wish on the bulletin board so that our Secret Santa would know what we would like to receive on the big day. The posted wishes were very helpful and convenient for both sides because it takes the hassle out of thinking for the appropriate gift to give to our "Baby".

In this modern age, we've gone paperless and high-tech. A few years ago, all instructions were  sent via email. The following years, they were now posted on our company Facebook page, and we could now post our wishes on our Facebook and/or Twitter accounts. We could give hints, or directly say what we would like to have so that whoever is our Secret Santa could see it on out tweets and posts. Everyone was also welcomed to give gifts to each and everyone they like.

Celebrity Wishes

Celebrities are just like us. No matter how affluent and well-afford they already are, they would still love to receive gifts from other people, even from their fans.

How would you know what gifts they would appreciate? Check out their tweets !

1. Kuya Kim Atienza
From his tweets, we determined that Kim Atienza is a fitness buff. He goes for a run or a bike ride every morning with friends, usually around the Mall Of Asia vicinity.

Kuya Kim was also a body builder during his younger days and even  starred in a show called "Fitness in Motion". So he would probably appreciate a gift that could be useful in his exercise and fitness activities like a mountain bike or its accessories, good running shoes, sports wear, health drinks, etc.

Kuya Kim is popular for being a great source of trivia which he generously shares in his regular TV shows like TV Patrol, Showtime and Matanglawin. So a great big book of facts, or equivalent digital e-books, would be ideal. Just make sure he doesn't already have a copy of it, so look for something newly-released.
2. Cesca Litton

One of her tweets tells us that she would like to go back to Paris, and was smitten by a La Vie En Rose music box.

La Vie En Rose means Life In Pink. It was a 2007 French biographical film about the life of French chanteuse Ã‰dith Piaf. The title La Vie en Rose comes from Piaf's signature song. Marion Cotillard stars as Piaf. The film won five Césars, including one for Best Actress, and Cotillard won an Academy Award for her performance, marking the first time an Oscar had been given for a French-language role.

Édith Piaf first popularized La Vie en Rose in 1946. The lyrics were written by Piaf and the melody of the song by "Louiguy" (Louis Guglielmi). Initially, Piaf's peers and her songwriting team did not think the song would be successful, but it became a favorite with audiences. An English version of the lyrics was written later by Mack David. Owing to its popularity, the song appeared on most of Piaf's subsequent albums.

We could probably give Cesca something similar. If a trip to Paris or other European countries would be too expensive for us, let's just give her a music box with an equally appealing tune.

3. Gretchen Fullido

Gretchen has recently received a new puppy which she  called "Bullet".

The puppy is a "Yorkie" or short for Yorkshire Terrier. Though small, the Yorkshire Terrier is active, loves attention, very overprotective and should not show the soft temperament seen in lap dogs. They are a little harder to train than some other breeds of dogs. This results from their own nature to work without human assistance. All you really need to do is be patient, as well as persistent, with your Yorkshire Terrier and invest a lot of time into training him or her.

So we now know she loves dogs, and maybe she would appreciate gifts that could help her take care and pamper her dog. Maybe a dog training certificate to help train the dog, or some of those cute little outfits for dogs. Gretchen loves wearing sexy dresses that effectively flaunts her voluptuous figure, so maybe we could give her dog an outfit matching her taste in clothing.

4. Iya Villania

According to one of her tweets, her favorite gospel group is Anointed, a reason why she loves to harmonize.

Anointed is a Contemporary Christian music group from Columbus, Ohio, known for their strong vocals and harmonies, featuring siblings Steve Crawford and Da'dra Crawford Greathouse, along with former members Nee-C Walls (who left the group in 2001) and Mary Tiller (who left in 1995). Their musical style includes elements of R&B, Pop, Rock, Funk, and Piano ballads.

Iya also apparently loves cupcakes and Silvanas, a frozen cookie made with a layer of buttercream sandwiched between two cashew-meringue wafers, coated with cookie crumbs. Many describe it as a cookie version of a Sans Rival. She also seems terrified seeing big bananas. Hey, ...calling the attention of Drew Arellano...

We've learned that Iya loves Gospel music so she could probably appreciate other Gospel groups as well. Give her an ipod or any similar media player containing selected Gospel music, along with some popular pop and dance music for her dance routines.

5. Christine Reyes

Chocolate bars, cakes, chips and crackers. V-cut, Roller Coaster, Granny Goose Tortillas, Potato Fries, etc. She definitely looks like she loves to splurge in a mountain of junk food while watching her favorite movie.

Christine is one of the sexiest stars in show business, so I think she just do this overindulgence every once in a while. Probably during her not so busy nights. After all those product endorsements, shows, guest appearances, movies, and other commitments, it's good to reward yourself occasionally.

She also goes to Allura to get rid of her tummy fats using their UltraShape machine. The UltraShape can trim as much as 10cm from your frame after three 45 – to 60-minute treatments. Using a combination of a vacuum-like device (to gently stimulate blood flow to the targeted area) and focused ultrasound, the UltraShape Contour/Ver3 works to permanently destroy fat cells and tighten lax skin at the same time.

She also mentioned in one of her tweets that she would love to have a Viva Artist catalog, and sell it too. A catalog full of glamour, class and peg. Does she probably mean she would be creating the catalog?

Do I need to spell out what she would love to have?

6. Pokwang

How many times have you heard the expression “You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your handsome prince?”

The Frog Prince is a lovely fairytale of hope and love. It is an age old tale of how things may not be what they seem, and wonderful things may come in less than wonderful packaging.

In our world that seems to put superficial beauty at such importance, it is important that stories like this one point our children towards inner beauty.

The friendship she gets from her personal friends or colleagues in show business may seem enough for comedian Pokwang or Marrieta Subong in real life, but I feel she is similar to a clown who makes people laugh, but deep inside her is loneliness due to solitude or lack of a lover.

Pokwang definitely needs a man in her life. So maybe we could introduce her to some bachelors out there, and set her up for a "blind" date.

7. Angelika Schmeing-Cruz

Popularly known as Angelicopter due to her co-hosting in Magic 89.9's Good Times. Good Times is a radio show originally hosted by Mo Twister (Mohan Gumatay), Mojo Jojo (Joseph Paul Pacis Javier), Grace Lee (Lee Kyung Hee) and Angelicopter (Angelika Schmeing-Cruz).

Angelicopter was one of DJ Mo's best friends, she believes that DJ Mo was not the one who released the video that went viral on YouTube implicating Rhian Ramos to an abortion scandal. She believes this is not the attitude of her best friend to destroy the life of his loved one.

She once tweeted that she was having a hard time finding the Manila Hotel coming from Makati. So she definitely needs a map detailing the street directions within Manila. Or if possible, a GPS or Global Positioning System, a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather, anywhere on or near the Earth, where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. It is maintained by the United Statesgovernment and is freely accessible by anyone with a GPS receiver with some technical limitations which are only removed for military users.

"And I find myself lost again in Makati. Tgsshh! Need to start using my Garmin GPS."- angelicopter899

8. Janelle Manahan

I can't blame Janelle is she is having some sleepless nights because of the tragedy that befall her and her long-time boyfriend, Ramgen Revilla , son of the former Senator Ramon Revilla Sr. with wife Genelyn Magsaysay.

Ramgen was killed while Janelle was suffered a gunshot wound through her face which was later reconstructed by surgery. She spent several weeks in the hospital recuperating.

Ramgen Revilla's murder was rumored to have been orchestrated or master minded by Ramgen's own family (mother and siblings) due to sibling rivalry brought about by money matters.

Janelle definitely needs some sort of activity or hobby to keep her busy.

She once tweeted to ask for the best software to compose and record songs. You could give her some of the popular music creation software out there. Some Googling would reveal plenty of choices.

9. Iza Calzado

Iza Calzado, or Maria Izadora Calzado in full, once tweeted her proud acceptance of her very first acting workshop certificate.

An acting workshop is a meeting of actors or others of one specific trade to learn how to hone their skill and to network with other actors or casting directors. Many actors will critique their peers and offer tips on how to enhance their abilities. Acting workshops are often staffed by professionals, which can include coaches, directors, or actors themselves. Casting directors sometimes act as coaches also. It is usually recommended that serious actors attend acting workshops to help increase their skill.

There are other types of workshops for similar kinds of trades. Voice actors learn how to enhance their skill of voicing a character, writers learn to how to give characters personality, and comedians can learn how to increase their comedic skill. There are even more trades in the arts that workshops aim to assist in.

Iza says she hopes to attend more acting workshop to hone or improve her acting prowess, though I think she doesn't need it anymore because of her superb performances already evident from her past and present TV and movie appearances.Truly, we do need constant training to enhance our skills because there's always something new to learn as we work with different types of people, and as the entertainment industry changes with the times.

So start researching on providers of acting workshops.

10. Angelica Panganiban

Angelica has proven herself to be a vibrant star in many genres: comedy, drama and even horror. Her movies and TV shows are always top-rated, and her acting awards and recognition are already accumulating by the heaps. She also has many product endorsements due to her angelic face and super-sexy figure.

Though a big star already, she still gets star-strucked!  Like when she had the opportunity to meet and take a picture with Vic Sotto, a veteran comedian from a rival TV station, she tweeted that she would have their picture together framed.

Choose the perfect frame for her picture, and be sure to get her measurements first, I mean get the full Width x Height of the item to be framed, before buying her a picture frame.

Her tweets also revealed she and her boyfriend, Derek Ramsay, owns a lot of puppies. One of her tweets also said she tried baking cookies for the first time.

Some dog accessories and baking tools would be perfect as a gift.

To be continued soon!

Part 2  coming up next.

Huling Hirit/Final Note:

“Perhaps she can rectify what has been done by helping us really achieve the reforms and the transformation of the society by telling us what exactly was done, how it was done, what were the loopholes that were exploited" - Noynoy Aquino's Christmas wish from Gloria Macapagal Arroyo

"For the Chief Justice, and with all due respect, perhaps he can revisit the oath that we all in government have to undertake and remember exactly to whom he made the promise to and what was promised" - Noynoy Aquino's Christmas wish from Renato Corona

"Pamasko niyo na lang po sa akin. Kapag may good news po tayo, huwag lang po sana natin itong ipagbulungan” - Noynoy Aquino's Christmas wish from the Media

“My wish isn't to mean everything to everyone, but something to someone.” - Anonymous

Congratulations to all the following "Winners"

1. Miriam Defensor Santiago

Elected as judge to the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC is the first permanent, treaty based, international criminal court established to help end impunity for the perpetrators of the most serious crimes of concern to the international community.
The ICC is an independent international organisation, and is not part of the United Nations system. Its seat is at The Hague in the Netherlands. Although the Court’s expenses are funded primarily by States Parties, it also receives voluntary contributions from governments, international organisations, individuals, corporations and other entities.

Santiago will be the the first Asian from a developing country to have a seat in the ICC. She is the third Filipino to be elected to UN courts. First, Chief Justice Cesar Bengzon to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), then Romeo Capulong to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

"I would like to thank my political enemies who may have campaigned to bring me out of the country" she said.

Corona Impeachment

Chief Justice Renato Corona is Impeached by the House

We face every single day without knowing what lies ahead. Nevertheless, beyond this uncertainty, stands the assurance that GOD cares!....and from the latest news that I've just heard, GOD truly loves us so much!

Chief Justice Renato Corona has just been impeached by the House.....and OMG, how extremely fast it was! As fast as Jesus!...Judge Jesus Mupas of the Pasay RTC, that is.

Another victory for the new government. No, another victory for the Filipino people!

Another Stone For The Orifice

6.      Another Stone for the Orifice

Demagoguery was a very new word for me, but what struck me more about it is that it was one of the first highfalutin word Arroyo used during her interview with GMA 7’s Arnold Clavio. It was also the first time we saw Arroyo without her neck brace, which revealed her scar from the previous operation.

A demagogue is a leader who makes use of popular prejudices and false claims and promises in order to gain power and admiration.

Arroyo claims that Aquino is using demagoguery to “linlangin” or deceive people and turn them away from his failures in alleviating the country out of the more important issues of poverty, unemployment, among others.

What a fancy word. It makes me wonder this time what would be a suitable word to describe what Arroyo’s camp is doing just to avoid being confined in an ordinary jail cell just like all the other detainees out there….and keeps on injecting their “house arrest” proposal instead. Who are they to make demands, and complain vigorously if they are denied?

Fake Doctors In Boracay

5.     Fake Doctors in Boracay

Going Mental

4.   Going Mental

Elena Bautista Horn shouts "It's mental torture!", as former president and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's grandchildren were not allowed to use an ipod inside the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) Presidential Suite. The children were there to visit Arroyo a few days after her transfer from the St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC).

After not being allowed to use mobile phones, laptops, TVs, radios, and other electronic media and communication devices, Horn is now again furious about the strict observance of the same restrictions to the visiting families, relatives and guests of Arroyo.

Horn is really out of her mind! I think Horn needs to be reminded that Arroyo is in detention in a government hospital, and not on vacation.

Another Boxing Champion

3.      Another Boxing Champion

Brian "The Hawaiian Punch" Viloria wins by a technical knockout just twenty-nine seconds into the eighth round versus Giovani Segura of Mexico at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig City. Viloria retains his WBO flyweight title in the bout dubbed as Island Assault 3.

While Amir Khan feels he was robbed in his loss vs Peterson, Viloria proves he can be a pound for pound best in his TKO victory.

Viloria in a convincing win. All heart and with superior skills and power, but his stamina remains a suspect.

Fugitives On The Loose

2.      Fugitives On the Loose

CCTV videos revealed the actions of a jailguard who purposely distracted the attention of other guards on duty and allowed three chinese nationals to escape. The three detainees, who are in prison for drug related cases, escaped from the Paranaque city jail, and was rumored to have the jailguard as an accomplice.

BJMP director Rosendo Dial formed Task Force Quatro, headed by Senior Superintendent Daniel Dequito, to supervise the investigation and manhunt for Jail Officer 1 Richard Sillatoc, who he declared armed and dangerous; and escaped inmates Long Zong, Chan Tong Lou and Cheung Wai Leung.

Plane Crash In The Metro

1.      Plane Crash in the Metro

I don’t know what came over the pilot of a  Mindoro-bound cargo plane (Queen airplane with RPC-824) when it crashed into a slum and a portion of a school area in Better Living, Paranaque killing 13 individuals, wounding several others, and burning down several houses of at least 100 familes, including some school buildings. There were also reports of missing persons. Most of the fatalities were from the residents that were caught by surprise of the plane crash.

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) secretary general Gwen Pang said that its pilot requested an emergency landing shortly after take-off but did not manage to return to the airport. PNP spokesman Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz said witnesses saw the plane burst into flames on impact. Firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Text Fire Philippines (TFP) quickly responded to the scene. PRC Emergency Rescue Units (ERUs) also gave medical assistance to survivors.

Total Lunar Eclipse

Did you catch the night of December 10's total lunar eclipse?

The best seats in the house for the total lunar eclipse spectacular was here in Asia.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon is positioned just right in its orbit to pass through Earth's shadow. Today, that occurred when Asia and the Pacific were facing right at the moon. Other regions of the world, including some areas of Europe and the western U.S. and Canada, could catch at least part of the show before sunrise or after sunset.

I watched the onset of the eclipse's total phase from our rooftop, but the clouds at my location closed in partway through the 51-minute window of totality. Did you see the moon's red glow?

So if it's a total eclipse, why didn't the moon go totally dark?

Top 5 Christmas 2011 Gift Suggestions

Christmas is so very much nearing. I am betting you are already planning to buy gifts as early as today. So to help you all out there who's having a hard time choosing the right gifts for the holiday season, I have some terrific gift suggestions here.

1. For the Dads, and Young Male Adults - Jim Paredes'  "LARO" solo album. The songs that make up  the album are “OPM Rap,” “Butong Pakwan,” “Ang Ganda Mo,” “May Araw Ka Rin,” “Sinungaling,” “Feeling Guilty,” “Libog Lang Yan,” “Lumisan Na Siya,” “In My Heart,” “Basic Love,” “Sumpa,” “Live Your Own Life,” “Mangarap at Managinip” and “Palagi-lagi.”

Though there is no Danny Javier and Buboy Garovillo, it's an all-original album made out of pure joy and fun, that is why he called it "Laro" as if just playing around.

“It's strange to record an album without my two friends. But it is exhilarating to be 100% responsible for what came out. All the songs are original. I worked with Ernie Baladjay, APO's arranger and friend of many years. Actually it wasn't work. We played,” Paredes said.

This is Paredes' first album recording after the APO Hiking Society, the longest running, most popular and respected group in the Philippines ended last May 29, 2010.

International Mountain Day

December 11 is International Mountain Day

This year’s International Mountain Day theme focuses on Mountains and Forests.

Healthy mountain forests are crucial to the ecological health of the world. They protect watersheds that supply freshwater to more than half the world’s people. They are also home to untold wildlife, provide food and fodder for mountain people and are important sources of timber and non-wood products.

Yet in many parts of the world mountain forests are under threat as never before and deforestation in tropical mountain forests continues at an astounding rate. Protecting these forests and making sure they are carefully managed is an important step towards sustainable mountain development.

100 Days To Transfer

It really felt like a hundred days had pass before Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was finally transferred from the St. Luke's Medical Center (SLMC) to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC). I've said a lot already from my previous blog post  "A Very Taxing Transfer to the VMMC" , but because of the significant impact of that day to my life where I was totally glued to the news the whole day (even online reading the tweets of the journalists that I was following), I was inspired to write this poem spontaneously, without looking back to edit, in just a few seconds (just for the fun of it). I'm satisfied with the results.

100 Days To Transfer

The long excruciating wait for many
Media, onlookers, and those watching on TV
Everyone thought it was gonna take forever again
Nakakainis na talaga itong si maarteng Len

Ayaw nilang lumipad sa PNP helicopter
dahil masama daw ang strong rainy weather
Di pwedeng sa chopper dahil wala raw sa usapan
Dapat by road lang lalo ngayong  umuulan

Nine hours na raw kasi waiting forever and a day

International Human Rights Day

INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY 2011

Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world every December 10.

On Human Rights Day, we pay tribute to all human rights defenders and ask you to get involved in the global human rights movement.

Human rights belong equally to each of us and bind us together as a global community with the same ideals and values.

As a global community, we all share a day in common: Human Rights Day on December 10, when we remember the creation 63 years ago of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted on  December 10, 1948. The date has since served to mark Human Rights Day worldwide. The High Commissioner for Human Rights, as the main UN rights official, and her Office play a major role in coordinating efforts for the yearly observance of Human Rights Day.

It has been a year like no other for human rights. Human rights activism has never been more topical or more vital. And through the transforming power of social media, ordinary people have become human rights activists.

This year, millions of people decided the time had come to claim their rights.

They took to the streets and demanded change.

Many found their voices using the internet and instant messaging to inform, inspire and mobilize supporters to seek their basic human rights.

Social media helped activists organize peaceful protest movements in cities across the globe, at times in the face of violent repression.

Poverty prevails as the gravest human rights challenge in the world. Combating poverty, deprivation and exclusion is not a matter of charity, and it does not depend on how rich a country is. By tackling poverty as a matter of human rights obligation, the world will have a better chance of abolishing this scourge in our lifetime....Poverty eradication is an achievable goal.

Acting alone or in groups within their communities, every day human rights defenders work to end discrimination by campaigning for equitable and effective laws, reporting and investigating human rights violations and supporting victims.

While some human rights defenders are internationally renowned, many remain anonymous and undertake their work often at great personal risk to themselves and their families.

Some human rights defenders are famous, but most are not. They are active in every part of the world, working alone and in groups, in local communities, in national politics and internationally.

They are of all ages and have diverse backgrounds and occupations.

Many are highly qualified people who have special skills as lawyers, journalists, doctors, architects, or teachers: many others have little or no education but they all have in common the fundamental conviction that human rights must be protected and promoted.

Everyone can advance and speak up for human rights no matter who they are or where they are from. Each one of us has the potential to make a difference.

Human rights defender is a title each and every one of us can earn. It is not a role that requires a professional qualification. What it depends on is regard for our fellow human beings, an understanding that we are all entitled to the full range of human rights and a commitment to seeing that ideal become a reality.

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s transfer comes a day before the International Human Rights Day, December 10, where human rights group shall commemorate it by reiterating their call to release all political prisoners, while stressing that Arroyo should be nowhere but in jail.

“We continue to demand that Arroyo should be put to a regular jail. Her transfer to VMMC is a special treatment for somebody whom we want to be prosecuted for her crimes. This does not in any way heed our call for justice,” Hustisya secretary general Cristina Guevarra said.

Among the protesters were families of political prisoners, relatives of victims of human rights violations including extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances, most of them victims during the term of Arroyo.

“Arroyo should go through the process accorded to those who committed crimes against the people. The current government should be reminded that more than her being former president, we are dealing with an election saboteur, plunderer, and a human rights violator. We have almost a decade to prove that,” Guevarra said.
