Free Ni-Ti Zone

Parents should be just like the free Wi-Fi zones out there that are available to be tapped if one wants access to the Internet. In this case, they should be called Ni-Ti, read as Nay-Tay short for the Tagalog name for Mother and Father. "Nanay" and "Tatay" or "Inay" and "Itay", similar to Mommy and Daddy, Mom and Dad, or Mama and Papa.

Similar to most Wi-Fi signals, a parent's presence should always be available and reachable when the children need them most...and not weak or fading on and off.

Parents should have a strong enough signal like maybe four bars at least, if five bars is not possible, so that communication would be easily felt at its acceptable level. Dropped or intermittent calls are simply a pain especially if in the middle of a very important conversation.

British anthropologist and Oxford professor Robin Dunbar has posed a theory that the number of individuals with whom a stable interpersonal relationship can be maintained (read: friends) is limited by the size of the human brain, specifically the neocortex. “Dunbar’s number,” as this hypothesis has become known, is 150.

Training Week

As ICT professionals, we should always keep ourselves updated with the latest Information and Communications Technology (ICT) trends and technologies. Never to be complacent with our stock knowledge especially when existing technologies are forever in a fast-pace development, and new technologies keep on emerging and becoming necessities as we speak.

It is therefore recommended that we should keep on learning to keep ourselves productive and efficient.

However, on the job, self-study learning strategies doesn't always work so sometimes we should cater to instructor-led training programs as well.

I recently attended a Microsoft-certified curriculum training on Active Directory administration at the DB Wizards training center located in Makati City. The course was specifically entitled "Configuring and Troubleshooting Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Domain Services".  Here are some photos during the 4-day training program.

Total Lunar Eclipse

Did you catch the night of December 10's total lunar eclipse?

The best seats in the house for the total lunar eclipse spectacular was here in Asia.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon is positioned just right in its orbit to pass through Earth's shadow. Today, that occurred when Asia and the Pacific were facing right at the moon. Other regions of the world, including some areas of Europe and the western U.S. and Canada, could catch at least part of the show before sunrise or after sunset.

I watched the onset of the eclipse's total phase from our rooftop, but the clouds at my location closed in partway through the 51-minute window of totality. Did you see the moon's red glow?

So if it's a total eclipse, why didn't the moon go totally dark?

Disrupt

TechCrunch named the final seven winners of its 2011 version of the TechCrunch Disrupt show in San Francisco, handing the crown to Shaker, an avatar-based chat room based on a user's Facebook profile.

The winner of the Disrupt Cup won $50,000. The runner up was Prism Skylabs, which taps into a company's video cameras for real-time footage and analysis. The Audience Choice award went to Vocre, a real-time translation app for the iOS platform.

TechCrunch founder invested in Prism Skylabs via his Crunchfund, and is a pending investor in Shaker, according to TechCrunch.

The final seven: Bitcasa, Shaker, CakeHealth, TalkTo, Prism SkyLabs, Farmigo, and Trello.
Bitcasa claims that it will change the way in which people use their data and their computers with regards to consumer data. "What happens when you run out of space? You buy another USB stick, another hard drive, another DVD," said Tony Gauda, co-founder and chief executive officer, in perhaps the most enthusiastic presentation of the afternoon.

In 48 hours since the company launched on Monday, over 45,000 users signed up.

Whatever Time

Most people are far less productive than they think they are because they are under- or over-estimating the time it takes to complete a task. Be diligent in the present while focusing on what you want to achieve in the future.


Time for some facts about time

Time is a part of the measuring system used to sequence events, to compare the durations of events and the intervals between them, and to quantify rates of change such as the motions of objects. The temporal position of events with respect to the transitory present is continually changing; events happen, then are located further and further in the past.

Time has been a major subject of religion, philosophy, and science, but defining it in a non-controversial manner applicable to all fields of study has consistently eluded the greatest scholars. A simple definition states that "time is what clocks measure".

CD-R King : Where Have All The CDs Gone?

When CD-R King started its business - 99 percent of its products were blank CD-Rs and DVD-Rs...I used to buy by the bulk, and collect a few of every design. My hobby back then, sometime around the year 2000, was to burn all the movies, mp3s, games, etc that I could download or borrow from my colleagues original audio and movie CDs and duplicate them, aside from buying the original audio and CD movies sold on sale ...di pa masyadong uso mga DVD movies noon at mahal pa kung mayroon man...My hunger for a collection was overwhelming dahil I could buy all the blanks readily available at CD-R King then kolektahin yun at itambak lang. My plan was to be able to use them for future media resource. Di pa kasi uso torrent or limewire download noon, or kung mayroon man ay hindi ko pa alam...May mga miniature CDs pa nga na may kapartner din na mga plastic cases...Then nagkaroon na rin ng mga CD jackets or bags, CD label stickers, blank DVDs, CD markers, .....

Now, nakakagulat na.....the variety of products that they now sell are enormous and almost countless in a sense dahil you cant possibly buy one of each during your lifetime, and more new products are emerging everytime I visit their store.

The sad news is that, there are now very little choices of blank CDs and DVDs....A reason why they should probably rename their store because I think only 1 percent of their products na lang ang mga blank CDs and DVDs...
