No Other Concert

All Sold Out !!!???

Anne Curtis teaches us how to sing and get away with it like a pro!

Tickets to her first major solo concert, "Annebisyosa: No Other Concert," have been selling like hotcakes since they became available. Fans are obviously excited to see their favorite actress-recording artist-TV host-fashion icon conquer the Big Dome on January 28.

The concert caps a banner year for Anne and ushers in her 15th year in showbiz. She had two major breakthroughs in 2011 – her movie, “No Other Woman”, became the highest grossing dramatic Filipino movie of all time, and her debut album, “Annebisyosa,” hit platinum status within a couple of months from its release.

“I feel so humbled by all these blessings,” says the Viva Artists Agency star. “And this concert may be the biggest of them all because it’s a dream that I never thought would ever come true.”

The star, who acknowledges that she’s “not the best singer in the world,” promises an enjoyable show. “We are making sure that it will be the best show that we can give,” Anne says. “Lots of production values, costume changes, plus some surprise guests. As for my shortcomings as a singer, I will make up for them with my entire performances. I will give it my all!”

This is the ultimate pasabog. They’re in for a spectacular treat. "We are leaving no stone unturned," says concert director Rico Gutierrez. "From the song choices and the choreography of Jeorcelle Dapat to the staging and the costumes, we’re making sure that this will delight Anne’s legions of fans and give them their money’s worth."

Working with the veteran young director on the concert are some of the best in the industry. These include musical director Marvin Querido, who worked closely with Anne in putting together around 20 songs for the show. "There’s a lot of pop music in it that we’re sure everyone will love including most of the songs in Anne’s platinum album," Querido declares. "And we’re also pulling some surprises. In fact, Anne is learning to play an instrument specially for the concert."

Also working closely with Anne are stylists Liz Uy and Pam Quinones. "We’re creating several eye-popping costumes for Anne for the various musical segments in the concert," Liz says. "We have no doubt that the costumes themselves will be talked-about, mainly because Anne is such a fashionista. We’re all very excited for the showcase," Pam added.

Of course, no one is more excited about the concert than the star herself. "I still can’t believe this is happening for real," Anne says. "It’s a dream come true and I’m so excited and anxious and nervous at the same time. This is probably one of the hardest things that I’m ever gonna be doing in my life, but I’m so up for it. I can’t wait to perform in my own concert for all my dear fans. This concert is really my way of thanking them for all their support throughout my 15 years in showbiz. So I, together with my entire concert team, am doing my best to make sure we all have a great time on January 28."

Final Note:

Speaking about getting away with it like a pro, Sen. Joker Arroyo said the House’s hasty vote for the Chief Justice’s ouster continues to bother him. Arroyo was a prosecutor in the impeachment trial of former President Estrada.

“What disturbs me is how the House, which I have known so long, and liked so well, could impeach Corona the way it did,” says Arroyo.

“(The) Articles of Impeachment was transmitted by the Committee on Justice to the Senate for trial. No notice, no hearing, no plenary proceedings to formalize the transmittal of so serious a matter took place,” Arroyo said.

“Yet, when the name of a place is changed, or any innocuous measure is filed, the Senate and the House go through the motions of notice, hearing, and plenary proceedings,” Arroyo said.

He said even a person charged with a very minor offense is afforded an inquest before he is charged by a prosecutor, the senator added.

In Estrada’s case, committee hearings preceded the justice committee’s decision to elevate the articles of impeachment to the plenary for the Speaker to announce their transmittal to the Senate.

“What matters is that in future, impeachment of a constitutional officer, which is sacrosanct, will henceforth be trivialized or cheapened. Impeachment is not intended to be that way,” Arroyo added.

He lamented that since impeachment can now be easily done, the House can simply gather signatures of one-third of its members for the impeachment of any unwanted constitutional officers.

Truly the House may be able to get away with a "speedy" process, but what I'm rooting for is that they do the same with the other important laws that has been pending in the lower house, such as the Freedom Of Information (FOI) and the Reproductive Health (RH) Bills.
